Every year we golf, we eat, we hang, we all around talk more in Movember because my calendar says it’s time to reach out, fundraise, and organize events. What if we didn’t have to wait? What if we hung out all year round? Last year you may remember I was pushing a new Instagram handle @StacheClassicSocial (please follow) where I wanted to build a bit of a community. Well I’ve since created a website, and this newsletter(!), in an attempt to keep the ball rolling. Humor me, let’s have more fun more often.

2024 ‘Stache Classic Walking Tour

Each edition will be four parts, probably.

  1. An intro (hey we just went through that, you’re 25% through)

  2. Upcoming events (hint : I’m hosting a movie night June 3rd)

  3. Some parting words about how I’m doing, or how one of you are doing.

Each edition will also unfortunately have a functioning unsubscribe button, something that never actually worked in my old emails, no matter how much you donated. I do ask you give me a couple newsletters to hit a groove before unsubscribing.

2. Upcoming Event - Inaugural ‘Stache Classic Movie Club

I wasted a couple hours a couple Movembers ago thinking through what it would look like to curate a month long film series of Movember adjacent movies. Movies where guys are going through something. What it turned into was a lot of unopened DMs to rep theaters in NYC, a letterboxd list, and a poster I made for a festival that was never happening.

Well, if these theaters aren’t going to hand me their reigns to take over a month of their programming, then I’ll do it myself.

I have a hold for Wednesday June 3rd for the theater at the Philadelphia Library, with a capacity over 300. The working plan is to have an intro by a special guest, an activity, a screening, some swag, and an after party hang at a near by bar afterwards. While a work on locking in vendors and designing merch, registration is open.

The 2024 film festival that wasn’t

3. Register for the golf tournament

Last year we had more people, more fun, and raised more money than we ever have. We’re running it back at Princeton Country Club, we’re bumping it 30 min earlier, and we’ve locked the date in for 10/24. More to come on this but early registration is open at all of the same prices and tiers as last year but tbh that may change when Nate and I sit and chew on it, so lock that in now. As always the event is only as good as the people and partners so please let me know if you’re interested in sponsoring to some capacity.

4. The Check-in

I’m good, how are you? As I type this I’m 2 days away from my second half of paternity leave. Man, isn’t paternity leave something. In the spirit of Movember, let’s talk about that. My first time around was FUN, it was me, Julian, and Genevieve and we had no schedule we had no plans we had no objective it was the three of us surviving and learning and figuring it out and having FUN. I can’t recommend overlapping parental leaves enough if you can, despite how tempting it is to stretch them for financial reasons -putting of childcare costs for a couple months- you may never have so much dedicated time as a unit again.

I think back a lot on a day my dad came to see Julian and seeing his opinion on paternity leave change in real time. He’s older, and he’s older-fashioned, and the idea of paternity leave was ridiculous. Men should be working, not their place, not their job, etc. etc. etc.. but when he saw Julian strapped to my chest as we went on a walk his opinion changed instantly, the look on his face and his words told a totally different story. “This is so nice.” It really was and it is and I’m so glad this is more common place.

Back to Friday tho, my second half of Pat leave starts next week and Genevieve will be back to work and It’ll just be me and Julian. Wish me luck.

Cool. You made it to the end.

Stick around for the next one. Register for an event. Let me know if you’re interested in hosting, partnering, sponsoring, ghost writing, anything.

Text your friends, make some plans, hang out more.
